Macau visitor arrivals steady during Easter, Ching Ming Festival holiday period

Macau welcomed 99,568 visitor arrivals over the Easter Holiday period from 2 to 6 April this year, with hotel occupancy rates creeping slightly above 50% according to information from the Statistics and Census Service and Macao Government Tourism Office.

This years Easter holidays included the three-day Ching Ming Festival Holidays on the mainland, although it wasnt enough to spark any major uptick in arrivals. Instead, a steady daily average of 19,914 people visited Macau of which 18,098, or a total of 90,491, were from mainland China.

Macaus daily average of 19,914 visitor arrivals was 53.8% higher than during the 2020 October Golden Week holiday but 17% lower than during March 2021, which included a 14-month high of 32,647 arrivals on Friday 26 March.

The MGTO has also reported a hotel occupancy rate of 53.1% from 2 to 6 April 4.5% higher than the October Golden Week and 3.0% lower than March. The figures include a 53.2% occupancy rate for 5-star hotels and 53.4% for 4-star hotels.

The average room rate was MOP$953, with 5-star rooms charging an average MOP$1,142 down 21.7% on October Golden week but creeping 4.1% higher than in March.
